It's been a very exciting time for me in my life recently going to America for three weeks to get married to my fiancee and also having some great movie experiences, Transformers advert on the Luxor pyramid the District 9 promo adverts and seeing Grauman's chinese theatre, but easily the best moment was when in New York on 22rd May 2009 I was lucky enough to see Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel filming the live action version of Disney's 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' coming in 2010. Read on... and check out the footage after the jump. The film was being shot just off of Times Square on 7th Avenue where there was an understandable police presence and emphasis on safety following the crash previously mentioned in Dave's blog here.I managed to capture three takes of the actual filming (with the help of my wife Suki) and got a good close up of Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel, Cage looking particulaily good in character. The film is certainly intriguing as i doubt anyone would of thought a live action version of the beautiful Disney film would ever be made and it certainly looks like a modern take on it and being directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure's) and produced by Dave's favourite, Jerry Bruckheimer, it will no doubt be an action packed ride.
It was fascinating to watch and incredible how much effort goes into making a basic scene that will make up possibly 2-3 minutes of the film. There was a huge convoy of vehicles involved in each take and you really get an understanding of the amount of crew needed to make a film work. The filming continued well into the night and i heard a sequence of presumed gun fire at about 2am then the same sequence of gun fire repeated three more times in the early morning which i can only assume was part of the filming and not New York crime and hope that it was Nicholas Cage taking on armed assassin's Wizard style!
Definitely looking forward to this one. |
