As you may have seen the other day, I posted photos from Ridley Scott's latest production, Robin Hood, which stars Australian's Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett. Those photos were from a British newspaper, the Daily Mail. They had said that filming was taking place in Bourne Wood in Surrey. Since we live in Surrey, my wife and I decided to see if we could hunt out the set. So, armed with a camera and a sat-nav, off we went... After a couple 'map malfunctuons', Bourne Wood near Farnham was discovered! Although no filming was taking place, we lucky enough to see a partially built set which included a huge castle, 2 villages and and what looks like a fort! It really is quite incredible what they can achieve and make look so authentic! The villages were surrounded by a metal fence and the whole plot was overlooked by a man in a Forestry Commission truck! We also stumbled across the prop tent which was full to the plastic rafters with carpets, vases, bowls, giant clay jars, candelabras and loads more period stuff. Although in a tent, I managed to squeeze my sneaky lens in for a shot! Even though the set wasn't fully finished and no filming was taking place, it was amazing to see how a surrey country wood could be both beautiful and still become a piece ofHollywood movie making magic. I hope to visit the set again before filming is completed but in the meantime, click here to view the gallery of 74 photos that I collected and I hope you enjoy them.
