Trainspotting 2: Danny & Begbie Make a Porno?
Written by Jon Lyus

trainspotting

Trainspotting is an iconic film and a milestone in British cinema, not least due to the talent its director, the recently be-Oscared Danny Boyle. The novelist and creator of anti-heros Renton, Sick-Boy and the infamous Begbie, Irvine Welsh revisited the world of Trainspotting with a sequel set ten years later, setting his unique gang of losers and nutcases against the world of pornography, with his unambigiuosly titled Porno.

The BBC have spoken to Robert Carlyle who played the psychotic Begbie in the 1996 film about a script of Porno that Danny Boyle is reportedly looking to direct. Ewan MacGregor has dismissed the idea of returning as Renton but apparently there's a lot of momentum behind this idea, which Danny Boyle had vowed only to consider when the original actors looked old enough to realistically depict the older versions of their characters.

I loved the original, when I saw this on a rainy Sunday afternoon 13 years ago it was a shot in the arm of British cinema, with Boyle compounding his audacious debut Shallow Grave, and bought a wealth of new talent to the screen. Given that Boyle has gone from the Edinburgh drug dens to slums of Mumbai and has garnered the highest accolades, it would seem a strange move to revisit the world of Trainspotting - personally I'd watch Danny Boyle direct traffic, so I'd certainly be interested to see what a decade has done to our old friends.
